Controversy in the finals, but
Exeter takes home the duck.
It was an eventful finale, with the undefeated Balliol team from group B set to take on the returning champs from group A. Balliol/Jesus put on the thrusters through the group stages, if perhaps at the cost of tiring a little, whereas the already strong side from Exeter/St. Anne's (and 3 coaches from Oriel) managed to do some recruiting during the break and seemed to come back with both rested returning players and fresh new recruits.
Balliol/Jesus came out striking, winning the swim-off and playing a physical first half to take the lead. However, a gentleman's agreement between the two teams may have turned the tides, as both teams agreed to play only non-BUCS players in the second half. The Exeter team, which now outnumbered Balliol 9 to 4, managed a string of successful plays to threaten BJU. Goals went both ways, but Exeter seemed to relish the new state-of-play, and ended up taking out cuppers at a respectable 11:8 scoreline.
Well done Balliol for winning the first half of cuppers and the prize known as 'second place', and well done Exeter for taking home the duck. We wish we meant that literally, but unfortunately the duck is so valuable that it must remain under lock and key in the sportsfed cabinet. We can say that both teams will be able to take home our tiny personalised cuppers ducks, but these were unfortunately delayed in production. (Presumably because replicating even a fraction of the original duck's awe was too difficult for the manufacturers). We will pass these on to your Captains for distribution.

Shout-Outs:
- Teddy hall for having so many blues players that dividing them up still resulted in one team being DQ'd for having too many blues.
- Pembroke for fielding an entire team, and Somerville and St. John's fielding all but one.
- James, for having the most college affiliations, thereby placing 1st, 3rd, 6/7th, and 9/10th + disqualified.
- The Polk Team for style points.
- Somerville and Hertford for being the most honest / best rule-followers.
We're recruiting!
We have two women's teams and two men's teams that we're recruiting for. We have a men's 2s side that plays in BUCS, and this year we'll be in a pool with East Anglia, Brookes, Leicester, and the other place 2s, which will be an evenly matched arena with fairly close away-games. All of the women's team train together and play frequent friendly matches. We also have varsity matches for men's and women's 1s and 2s.
We saw a lot of good play out there in cuppers. If you enjoyed it and think that a few sessions a week wouldn't hurt then sign up to our mailing list below! Also, feel free to pop in to our summer trainings: Monday swim lanes 20:30-22:00, Wednesday full pool 18:00-19:30.
